Explore glassblowing, casting, kiln forming, painting, and mixed media
whether you are a beginning, intermediate, or advanced student.
-
Break with tradition - be conceptually reckless - plunder notions and
pre-conceptions about how glass is used by artists.
- Learn to use glass as a tool for thinking.
This class is designed for open-minded intermediate and advanced art students with or without previous experience working with hot or cold glass. Beginners with an intense interest in glass, that don't scare easily, may also apply. This will be a fast-paced, intensive workshop, expect to work hard and to have fun.
-
Submit a brief (half page) statement that details why you would like to
participate in this class, and what you hope to gain from this
experience. Also include 10 to 20 images on a Mac-readable CD*. Please
send low-resolution JPG images of your best work. This does not need to
be glasswork and we don't need long explanations of the work. Title,
material, and basic dimensions are fine. *If your CD cannot be opened
on a Macintosh G-5 computer with an OS-X operating system, you may not
be considered for the class!

Therman Statom
Artist and educator known for his large-scale installations and public art commissions in painted glass and mixed media. He has built a career, plundering the notion that glass is necessarily pristine and decorative. His large-scale painted glass installations celebrate concepts of control and recklessness. Joe Cariati
Master glassblower, painter, and teacher at CSU Fullerton. His blown glass is clean, elegant and the essence of control, but his paintings hail from the streets of San Francisco. A culmination of his interest in graffiti, degradation and text, his work pushes and ignores popular expectations and pre-conceptions when it comes to glass. (www.joecariati.com)

Michael Scheiner
Master glassblower, mixed media artist, and currently teaching at Nagano University of Art in Japan. His radical response to the over-refinement of the medium recalls brutal abstract forms from New York in the 1950s and 1960s.
